Payment methods across the Umfolozi resort

Where cash, cards and transfers each work in a complex that is far more than a gaming floor.

Umfolozi is a resort, so payment splits by where you are standing. Cards cover hotel reception for the 44 Metcourt rooms, the restaurants and the Sugar Room bar. The gaming floor runs on rand: notes into the machines, or cash exchanged for chips at one of the 12 tables. Electronic transfer is the usual route for rooms and for conferences of up to 350 guests booked in advance, and it normally reflects within 2 working days. The Winners Circle card records play but pays for nothing.

Why it pays to arrive with both

The resort sits at 2 Copper Drive in Kuleka, on the edge of Empangeni and off the R34. That is convenient once you are in Zululand, but Zululand is roughly 180 km north of Durban and a long haul from Gauteng. Discovering that your card limit is lower than you assumed, or that you brought less cash than the evening needed, is not a five-minute problem at that distance from home.

It is also worth keeping two budgets deliberately apart. Resort spending — a room, dinner, drinks at the bar — is predictable and suits a card. Gaming spending should be a fixed amount of cash decided before you arrive. Keeping them separate is the simplest way to know at the end of the night exactly what the evening cost, which matters more at a venue whose floor has no closing time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay by card on the gaming floor?
The floor runs on cash in rand: notes into the machines or chips bought at the tables. Cards are for the hotel, the restaurants and the bar.
How long does an EFT take to reflect?
Usually the same day to 2 working days, depending on the banks involved. Arrange room and conference payments before you travel rather than on arrival.
Is the Winners Circle card a payment card?
No. It is Peermont's loyalty card: it records play and carries rewards value, and it is free to join for visitors aged 18 and over.
